Here, connect you with a variety of services to support your comfortable settlement in your new
environment. Acknowledging the challenges of the immigration process, our goal is to make you feel at
home and ready to start a new life.
Resettlement Assistance Program
We extend a warm welcome to the arrivals of Government Assisted Refugees (GAR).
Working in collaboration with our partners, MCAF, the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) staff ensures the immediate and short-term needs of newcomers are met, providing interpretation services and arranging transportation to temporary accommodation.
The Government of Canada, through the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP), extends financial support to GARs for essential needs like food, housing, and transportation. The amount varies based on family size and age. GAR families receive financial assistance for up to one year or until they achieve financial self-sufficiency.
During the initial 4-6 weeks in Canada, our partner’s RAP staff, alongside MCAF, assists GAR clients in:
- Accessing emergency and initial healthcare services
- Securing permanent accommodation
- Acquiring household supplies
- Enrolling in English or French language classes
- Connecting with First Fredericton Friends
We also provide orientation on:
- Mandatory federal and provincial programs (e.g., Social Insurance Number, Interim Federal
- Health Program, NB Medicare, Canada Child Benefit)
- Canadian life skills, culture, and society
- Understanding Canada’s financial system, setting up a bank account, and budgeting
- Navigating the housing market
- Understanding public education
- Getting familiar with public transportation and neighborhood orientation
- Awareness about 911 emergency services
- Understanding N.B’s healthcare system, rights, and responsibilities
- Programs tailored for children and youth
- Accessing employment support services
Pre-Arrival Assistance Program
Our Partner MCAF is the Provincial Partner of two national-level pre-arrival organizations (Planning for Canada and Active Engagement and Integration Project). MCAF offers free pre-arrival services to clients who are referred by these two pre-arrival organizations to help their smooth transition prior to arrival.
The MCAF team connects with newcomers before they leave their country of residence to give them the preparation they need to have a successful integration in New Brunswick and the workforce.
Give Advice
- Prioritize tasks that need to be done before and after your arrival in Canada
- Answer questions on settlement, employment, credentials, and community services etc.
Make Referrals
- Make connections with the right person and organizations such as immigrant serving agencies, school, regulatory bodies, professional associations, government etc.
Provide Information
- Legal rights and responsibilities in Canada
- Settlement services at no cost after you arrive such as language classes, workshops, and youth programs
- Financial, housing, and schooling contacts
- Foreign Qualification Recognition (FQR)
- Access to specialized online information sessions and workshops
About PfC
Planning for Canada (PfC), funded by Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada, provides pre-arrival services to economic and family class immigrants before coming to Canada. Our Partner – Multicultural Association of Fredericton Inc. – are happy to be part of Planning for Canada as Provincial Advisors to help immigrants prepare for their move, settlement and employment in Canada.
Exploratory Visit Program
As per guidelines set by the Government, we are only offering exploratory visits to candidates of the Business Immigration Stream and Initiative Strategies Immigration Program, for now, this project is mainly led by our partner MCAF and delivered in the Fredericton region.
If you are a candidate of the Initiative Strategies Immigration Program, please complete the form and attach your “Invitation to Apply” (ITA) to be admissible.
If you are a candidate of the Business Immigration Stream, you need to complete a form first.

Senior’s Group
The Immigrant Senior’s Group participates in community programs such as Community Gardens, Meals on Wheels, and the St. Thomas University Third Age Centre. Seniors attend health and wellbeing activities and workshops, and enjoy performances at the Fredericton Playhouse.
The seniors and after school children participate in gardening and interactive activities together.
LGBTQ2S+ Group
“Between Friends” is a culturally diverse group providing a safe space for LGBTQ2S+and questioning immigrants, refugees and students.
Immigrant Catering Group
Immigrant Catering Group designed for immigrants from around the world to prepare and share delicacies from their home countries. If you enjoy cooking or want to share and showcase their cultural cuisine, this is the right place.
This group can also help you take the first step on your career path, find valuable information related to Meetings, events, celebrations, banquets and weddings.
Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism in Schools and Community
Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism in Schools and Community (DIAR) is designed to enrich public education on inclusion and promote cultural diversity to create a supportive environment for inter-cultural exchange where individuals of all origins feel recognized, respected and included in the schools and community. Programs providing now:
- Interactive Presentations and Pro-diversity activities for different age groups in school.
- Living Library: “Living Books” from diverse backgrounds share their personal stories and lived experiences through a 20-minute chat.
- Anti-Racism Panel Discussion: The public is invited to hear panelists from diverse backgrounds discussing the impact of racism, and strategies for promoting racial equality.
- Multicultural Art workshops: Participants explore diverse cultures by creating art (drawing, painting, crafts).

Art in the Park Benches Project: Newcomer artists painted colorful benches representing their culture throughout the city of Fredericton.

Cultural Brokers
Cultural Brokers Program invites newcomers and longer settled immigrants with a high level of English and French language skills, and representing diverse ethno-cultural and linguistic communities, to participate in various workshops and train as a Cultural Broker.
Cultural brokers are connected with newcomers who are facing multiple barriers to settlement and integration. A cultural broker will enhance access to community services for the newcomer, and supports organizations in the community who wish to offer culturally sensitive and inclusive services to newcomers.
Cultural Expressions Festival
The Cultural Expressions Festival (CEF) welcomes you to join us for the celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism Day in June. CEF offers two exciting days of cultural performances, exhibits, arts, food, tea ceremony and family activities presented by local ethno-cultural groups. A series of multicultural activities are organized in schools and other places throughout the month of May and June.
CEF provides newcomers and long time residents alike with a unique and excellent opportunity for enhanced cultural exchange and interactive experiences to connect, engage with and appreciate the vibrant welcoming and inclusive community of Fredericton.
Multicultural Shared Spaces
Multicultural Shared Spaces(MSS) offers resources to bring together ethno-cultural groups to design activities and events to share their culture and to support integration and the full participation of emerging diverse ethno-cultural groups in our community.
MSS also engages the Fredericton community and key stakeholders, including seniors, family groups and youth, to interact with newcomers and diverse cultures to increase their awareness of diversity and to create an inclusive and welcoming community.
Diversity Mural
Diversity Mural was created by artists from diverse cultures to showcase flowers, animals and objects representing over 36 cultures. The mural celebrates the beauty and strength of cultural diversity in Fredericton.
